Dear Mr. Strasser
On behalf of the Virginia Holocaust Museum and its Board of Directors, I would like to thank you for letting the young adults of your country come to the United States to learn and assist the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
The Virginia Holocaust Museum is a primary source for inquiry and demand of resources. From teachers, students and religious leaders to civic, corporate and governmental officials, the inquires come from more resources and interpretive direction. The range of inquiry is broad: the World War and Holocaust experience, historical and current genocide, racism and bigotry, and the broader lessons of history at its worst.
In its few years of operation, the Virginia Holocaust Museum has outgrown its current home, a second floor of a former small school. Last year the Virginia General Assembly recognized the museum's need for more space and donated a 125,000 square foot facility. The museum currently has only two employees: a full time administrative assistant and a development and membership secretary.
Due to our limited staff at the present time, we cannot express enough our gratitude in having interns from Austria. With the amount of research that must be done, the students you send are exactly what the museum needs. The first intern of 14 months left just last month. The second intern has arrived this month and is just as knowledgeable as the first. The knowledge of these young adults is a valuable asset to the museum. We have used their knowledge in many areas of the museum. I would also like to express the importance of the money that is given to these interns while they stay in the United States. As the museum is a non-profit organization, we cannot afford to bare the expense of their living cost. It is important due to the young adults are living on their own.
Again, I would like to thank you for your generosities and kindnesses.
Respectfully yours,
Jay M. Ipson
Chairman of the Board
